Workshops offered by DSW Services focus on different Ortho-Bionomy class offerings. Please note some classes, such as Phase 5 & 6, may have pre-requisites of a Phase 4 class. Our workshops are taught by Ortho-Bionomy instructors trained and registered by the Society of Ortho-Bionomy International. Please see upcoming workshops for a specific description of an upcoming workshop.

Ortho-Bionomy techniques are highly effective, easy to learn, easy on your body, and combine well with other bodywork and complimentary healing systems. In Self Care the student will discover a sense of balance and ease with gentle exercises that facilitate the release of structural imbalance and discomfort within your body, hw to achieve a more efficient and balanced sitting posture, and way to help clients extend the work they receive in sessions, and help themselves with problems the may experience at home.

Class covers the history, philosophy and basic concepts of Ortho-Bionomy. In this class you will observe and practice specific techniques for releasing imbalances. These techniques result in the release of pain and neuromuscular tension patterns and promote expanded motion, increased circulation and a greater sense of well being.

The focus of Phase Five is to move to a more subtle level of awareness of the practice and principle of Ortho-Bionomy. Specific techniques develop and increase the student's understanding and proprioceptive sensitivity to the self-corrective movements initiated by the client. Through the practice of observing, following and supporting subtle movement patterns, muscular tension is released, range of motion is increased and pain is reduced. In Phase Five, students are encouraged to do less and let the client be the guide for his/her exploration of change. Phase Six is designed to help participants access and track sensation and energetic perception in themselves and in their clients, and to learn how to make contact without necessarily engaging physically. Techniques will be presented that monitor and acknowledge the inter-relationship between energetic, emotional and physical levels, and that demonstrate how energetic shifts can affect changes in physical patterns. Some instructors have a prerequisite of Phase 4 course prior to this course.

Phase Seven of Ortho-Bionomy can be many things to many people. It was originally presented as a means of healing at a distance. Along with this Richard Valasek considers Phase Seven to be the spiritual, energetic, and philosophical underpinning of Ortho-Bionomy. The primary message that Richard draws from his study and application of Phase Seven is that it elegantly describes the fundamentals of systems theory. Phase Seven teaches us that being is always “being with,” that “I” is not prior to “we,” that existence is essentially co-existence. Phase Seven will also be connected to eastern and western spiritual traditions as well as modern cognitive behavioral practices.

This exploration adds depth and dimension to Phase Four Ortho-Bionomy. In this class, students learn to observe and explore various patterns of movement throughout the body in skin, fascia, muscle, bone, and joints; and utilize this awareness to facilitate release in these areas. These techniques form an excellent bridge from the physical to the energetic work of Ortho-Bionomy.

|
Ethics, Emotions and the Biological Model of Trauma teaches skills for addressing emotional responses that may arise during a session in an appropriate and professional manner. The workshop also covers the biological model of trauma. In addition, participants discuss the guidelines for professional conduct and review the Society of Ortho-Bionomy International's Code of Ethics.

Posture is how we live in our bodies - the sum total of everything that has happened during our lives and how we felt about it. In addition, our posture holds the potential for everything we can become. These habits of use have a profound affect on patterns of musculoskeletal tension within the body. In this class we will explore various postural patterns and their affect on spinal balance. You will learn techniques and exercises for promoting balanced posture within your own body, as well as for working with clients. You will also learn techniques for working with spinal curvatures and scoliosis.
